Objective: The objective of this Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Digital and Microprocessor Lab at DMRSTI. This SOP aims to provide guidelines and protocols to maintain a secure environment for digital and microprocessor-related activities, protect equipment, and ensure the safety of lab users.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lab Supervisor:
  • Overall responsibility for lab safety and maintenance.
  • Conduct regular inspections and ensure the functionality of equipment.
  • Provide training and guidance to lab users on safety protocols.
  • Investigate and report safety incidents and equipment malfunctions.
  • Manage access to the lab and enforce lab rules.
  1. Lab Technicians:
  • Assist the lab supervisor in enforcing safety rules.
  • Conduct safety briefings and training for lab users.
  • Ensure that safety equipment is available and functional.
  • Provide technical support for lab users.
  • Report unsafe conditions and incidents promptly.
  1. Students and Lab Users:
  • Follow all safety guidelines and protocols.
  • Attend safety training sessions as required.
  • Report unsafe conditions, accidents, or incidents to lab staff.
  • Use digital and microprocessor equipment responsibly.
  • Adhere to lab schedules and respect fellow users.

Safety Guidelines:

  1. Personal Safety:
  • Avoid running or engaging in any behavior that could lead to accidents within the lab.

  • Report any damaged or malfunctioning equipment to lab staff immediately.

  • Keep flammable materials away from electrical outlets and equipment.
  • Familiarize yourself with the location and use of fire extinguishers.
  • In case of a fire, follow evacuation procedures and use fire extinguishers only if trained to do so.

  • Do not overload power strips or outlets. Unplug unused devices.
  • Avoid using damaged power cords or equipment.
  • Use surge protectors to safeguard against electrical surges.
  1. Equipment Use:
  • Use digital and microprocessor equipment only for its intended purpose.
  • Do not attempt to repair or modify equipment without proper authorization and training.
  • Handle components with care to prevent damage.

  • Use tools safely and appropriately, following manufacturer guidelines.
  • Keep tools organized and return them to their designated storage areas after use.
  • Report any damaged or missing tools.

  • Respect the privacy of others and do not attempt to access their data or accounts.
  • Safeguard sensitive information and follow data protection policies.
  1. Security and Access Control:
  • Do not prop open lab doors or allow unauthorized access.
  • Report any suspicious activity or individuals to lab staff.
  • Follow access control procedures, including sign-in/sign-out processes.
