Objective: The objective of this Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Computer Hardware Lab at DMRSTI. This SOP aims to provide guidelines and protocols to maintain a secure and productive environment for hardware-related activities, protect equipment, and ensure the safety of lab users.
Responsibilities:
- Lab Supervisor:
- Overall responsibility for lab safety and maintenance.
- Conduct regular inspections and ensure the functionality of equipment.
- Provide training and guidance to lab users on safety protocols.
- Investigate and report safety incidents and equipment malfunctions.
- Manage access to the lab and enforce lab rules.
- Lab Technicians:
- Assist the lab supervisor in enforcing safety rules.
- Conduct safety briefings and training for lab users.
- Ensure that safety equipment is available and functional.
- Provide technical support for lab users.
- Report unsafe conditions and incidents promptly.
- Students and Lab Users:
- Follow all safety guidelines and protocols.
- Attend safety training sessions as required.
- Report unsafe conditions, accidents, or incidents to lab staff.
- Use hardware equipment and facilities responsibly.
- Adhere to lab schedules and respect fellow users.

Safety Guidelines:

- Fire Safety:
- Keep flammable materials away from electrical outlets and equipment.

- In case of a fire, follow evacuation procedures and use fire extinguishers only if trained to do so.
- Electrical Safety:
- Do not overload power strips or outlets. Unplug unused devices.
- Avoid using damaged power cords or equipment.
- Use surge protectors to safeguard against electrical surges.
- Hardware Use:
- Use hardware equipment only for its intended purpose.
- Do not attempt to repair or modify hardware components without proper authorization and training.
- Handle components (e.g., RAM, hard drives) with care to prevent damage.
